Sometimes surgery may be the only way to successfully treat certain disabling, painful, or life-threatening conditions. At Aurora Pet Hospital, we provide a wide array of surgical services, utilizing the most up-to-date methods, coupled with state-of-the-art equipment, to assure the safe and successful recovery of our patients. All dogs and cats placed under anesthesia here have their vital signs continuously monitored. We also require a current rabies vaccine, bloodwork, and an EKG prior to anesthesia.
Our doctors perform a wide variety of soft tissue surgeries. These include sterilization (spay and neuter), cystotomy, foreign body removal, wound repair, and complex mass removals, just to name a few.
We recommend spaying and neutering all dogs and cats not intended for breeding.
Recently published research indicated that 6 months is the optimal age for female dogs to undergo this surgery and 10 months of age for males. Kittens/cats should be spayed/neutered any time after 12 weeks of age depending on size.
This surgery has the following benefits:
Just like humans, dogs and cats can suffer from plaque buildup, gum recession, periodontal disease, and resulting tooth loss. General anesthesia is always required to allow a dog or cat's teeth to be thoroughly cleaned and polished. Plaque removal above and below the gum surface is performed on each tooth with the used of an ultrasonic cleaner. After cleaning, the teeth are polished. During the course of the professional dentistry, the licensed veterinary technician will examine each tooth for cracks and decay that may necessitate an extraction. At Aurora Pet Hospital, dental extractions are only performed by our veterinarians, who are highly skilled in these surgical procedures.
This deals with the prevention or correction of injuries or disorders of the skeletal system and associated muscles, joints, and ligaments. Besides repair of bone fractures, our doctors are skilled in performing anterior cruciate ligament repairs, femoral head and neck resections, medial patellar subluxation correction, and a variety of other orthopedic surgeries. Here at APH Dr. Diaz performs these types of procedures and will be able to discuss options if your pet should need an orthopedic surgery!
