Wellness Examinations

Here at Aurora Pet Hospital, we realize the value in the annual physical examination for all of our patients. Annual physical examinations are essential in helping us identify medical problems early, before more serious conditions develop.  We promote proactive medicine and nutrition early on, to minimize the onset of problems as pets age. Vaccinations are a very important component to preventative care for your pet. We regularly review our vaccination schedule, and strictly follow American Veterinary Medical Association guidelines.  We individualize our vaccination protocol for each of our patients, based upon their lifestyle and risk factors.  In this way, we eliminate the possibility of over-vaccinating any pet. Our staff will happily discuss with you, in detail, our current recommended vaccine protocol.

PUPPIES & KITTENS

To get off to a healthy start, puppies and kittens require medical attention during their first few weeks of life.

We'll give your new best friend a thorough physical exam, as well as the necessary vaccinations. We HIGHLY recommend a fecal sample be brought with you to your first visit.

Puppies should begin their examinations and vaccinations at 8 weeks of age. Puppies will be given a series of vaccinations, which will protect them against Canine Distemper,  Infectious Canine Hepatitis, Canine Parainfluenza, Parvoviral Enteritis, Leptospirosis, Lyme disease, and Bordetella.  They will also receive a 1 year Rabies vaccination as soon as possible after reaching 12 weeks of age.  A HEAL test (heartworm, ehrlichia, anaplama, lyme disease) requires only a few drops of blood and will be performed at 6 months of age.

Kittens should begin their examinations and vaccinations at 8 weeks of age.  All kittens will be given a series of vaccinations, which will protect them against Feline Distemper, Calicivirus, and Rhinotracheitis.  They will also receive a Rabies vaccination after 12 weeks of age, which will protect them for 1 year.  We will discuss more testing options at the first visit.

SENIORS

Senior pets are living longer lives than ever before, thanks to recent advances in veterinary medical knowledge and care, newer therapies, and better nutrition.

While this is fantastic news for pets and their owners, it also means that your pet's routine healthcare needs to be given special attention as they age.

Regular examinations become increasingly important as your pet approaches middle age to ensure their continued health and longevity.

We pay special attention to your senior pet's potential geriatric conditions, such as arthritis or decreased vision, in addition to the routine wellness procedures we perform on all adult pets.

Additional lab tests for aging pets may be advised in order to provide more detailed information about your senior pet's overall health and well-being.
